We are champions of behavioral health.
Have you ever felt so strongly about something that you had to take action? In 1981 a few parents in Calvert County, Maryland, decided to help their emotionally disabled children integrate into their community after State Hospitalizations. They knew that being part of a community is the key to a meaningful life. This group became incorporated under the name BLESS, Inc. (Building Livelihood Education and Social Success). BLESS, Inc.'s original focus around support groups and a thrift store.
Since the creation of BLESS, Inc., the organization has grown and expanded to what is known as Southern Maryland Community Network, Inc., providing behavioral health services to over 2000 individuals in Southern Maryland. SMCN has grown from providing services to one county to three since its conception.
Southern Maryland Community Network has sought to serve individuals in a continuum of care that addresses the need to gain and regain skills to be thriving citizens as a route to recovery from behavioral illnesses. SMCN provides over 13 mobile, flexible services on and off-site. Services and goals are person-centered for youth and adults. Services are centered on the individual and anchored in innovative programming and evidence-based practices. We are champions of behavioral health. The Network. Champions of Behavioral Health.
