Tell Us a Story – Joey and the Fun Weekend Packet

Our SMCN staff has been hard at work behind the scenes during this recent COVID-19 pandemic. We wanted to highlight our team’s efforts, so we asked them to “Tell Us A Story” how they have helped their consumers during this pandemic. As our staff tells their story, we hope you can see that they are the “Champions of Behavioral Health” in our Southern Maryland Community.

Joey and the Fun Weekend Packet

Hello,

Here is my story of how I have supported my individuals during COVID 19. Initially, when COVID 19 started, most of my consumer’s concerns were being stuck in the house with limited support. I began asking clients what type of things they would be interested in doing for self-care. Most of my clients stated crossword puzzles, word searches, and coloring pages. So each Friday, I would create a “fun weekend” packet by printing out coloring pages, crossword puzzles, and then I would add random weekly reading like self-care activities to do or 100 strange but true facts, to assist in keeping them busy. I did not realize how big of a hit it was until Fridays would approach, and my clients would ask if I was passing out any “fun weekend” packets. I also understood that most of our clients utilize the library for movies and books, with it being closed, that was no longer an option. So, I donated my movie collection and treated it like the library with a sign-out sheet, which was a big hit. I then started asking people if they could donate any books or movies to add to the collection, and I would meet them to pick them up. I Also make award certificates for my folks to acknowledge any achievements they have completed. So that is what I have done, and it has worked well.
